AKRE, IRAQ: The residents  of the Kurdish Iraqi city of Akre drape a 60 meter Kurdish flag from the Kele Mountain to celebrate Newroz...March 21st every year, Kurdish people around the globe celebrate Newroz, the first day of the Kurdish calender.  Newroz is also the vernal equinox and the first day of spring.  In Iraqi Kurdistan the celebrations begin the evening of the 20th.
